This assignment will help you prepare for your final research paper by getting you to brainstorm on your topic.
From the list of topics on the World Watch list, or your own familiarity with environmental issues, choose 3 possible final paper topic areas that interest you. For EACH topic you choose, write a 75-100 world clear and coherent, single paragraph description of why this topic interests you or why this particular problem is so significant. You are welcome to do some initial web research on these topics, but your main task at this stage is to think about which topics might interest you.
Some reasons a topic may interest you:
- The issue is important for your own personal background or experience. (E.g., a family member worked in the farming).
- The issue is significant with the part of the country or world you are from.(E.g., you are from an arid climate that faces water issues.)
- The issue is significant for a people group with which you identify or want to learn about. (E.g., deforestation issues in Brazil)
- The issue seems interesting to explore in light of your religious faith or moral commitments. (E.g., pollution issues that disproportionately affect the poor.)
- Understanding the issue will challenge you to become a better thinker. (E.g., the difficulties in conceptualizing sustainable economies.)
- It is related to an topic with which you have familiarity. or one that you want to know more about.
- You believe the issue to be a most urgent issues in comparison to others.
