MA:  Benson Ch. 2 (Part II)

1)  (Re)-read Jane Howarth's essay, "Neither Use Nor Ornament," in the Benson text, and get a good understanding of the difference between a non-instrumental and an instrumental value.

2)  In 1 page (roughly 250 words):

    a) Give a brief explanation of Howarth's distinction.

    b) Apply Howarth's argument to the particular natural phenomenon you will use for your first major paper, i.e. river, forest, lake, etc.  Argue for the particular value of that natural phenomenon using Howarth's categories.

This paper should be typed, double spaced, 12 point, Times Roman, with 1 inch margins.  Please be careful of plagarism when you are explaining Howarth's categories.
